Please join us in welcoming Trevor Pettiford to the Friends of Strays Board of Directors!Trevor describes himself as a man “living in the blessing.” He was just 8 years old when he decided he wanted to be a TV Reporter and by the grace of God he has lived his childhood dream for more than 40 years. His broadcasting career begin in his hometown of Dayton, Ohio, at WHIO-TV. From there he’s covered news in Orlando at WFTV-TV, then WAGA-TV in Atlanta, WVTM-TV in Birmingham as the weekend evening anchor and finally in Tampa at Spectrum Bay News 9.
Trevor's storytelling has won Emmy Awards, but what matters most to him is that his work helped change people’s lives for the better – and some of those stories changed him. Covering stories on teen violence lead him to become a Big Brother in Big Brothers Big Sisters in Dayton, then volunteering with the Boys & Girls Club in Atlanta, and now as a mentor in St. Pete’s Men in the Making. Trevor also serves as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for the Early Learning Coalition of Pinellas County, volunteers at the Democratic Club of St. Petersburg, and is a member of the Tampa Bay Association of Black Journalists.
One particular story Trevor covered in 2012 about a quintet from The Florida Orchestra traveling to Cuba resulted in him meeting and interviewing his future husband, Principal Flutist Clay Ellerbroek.
Their careers are their passions, steeped in the belief that when God blesses you with a natural talent, it must be shared with others because it’s an expression of His love.
After retiring from news in 2024, Trevor started his own media consulting business,TrevorNEWS, LLC, with a focus on helping small businesses and non-profits gain publicity for the work that they do.
