Sometimes when animals come into our care at Friends of Strays they need a little more TLC, whether that’s because they are too young for adoption, are too weak or underweight, or need a peaceful place to recover from illness or surgery. That’s where fosters come in – volunteers who open their hearts and homes to care for these pets until they’re ready for adoption. Friends of Strays provides all supplies and medical care.
“Fostering helps save the lives of animals in need and opens a kennel for us to save another,” says Kim.
The love our fosters provide to our animals helps save their lives. They rehabilitate and build back up the health and confidence of these animals, many of whom have been through the unimaginable prior to being rescued.
“My favorite thing about our foster program is getting to see the before and after effects of a loving foster home.” says Kim. “I often foster myself because I see the impact it has on our organization and the animals.”
The cost of providing for the animals in our care adds up quickly. Here’s a peek of just a few costs:
$20 just for the supplies to feed motherless kittens, not including the milk replacement.
$25 for 10 cans of kitten wet food, which last about 2 weeks for 2 kittens.
$50 for just dry food for one adult dog for a month.
