Clementine the Courageous Kitten!

Introducing the courageous kitten Clementine!
This adorable kitten has had a rough start in life. She was first abandoned alongside nearly 20 other kittens at an animal hospital in Palm Harbor, who reached out to us for help. At first, everything seemed normal for this little lady, and she was quickly adopted. However not long after adoption, she began to develop strange lesions on her face, ears, and paws. Her adopters took her to a vet to seek help, but with her diagnosis unclear and future medical needs uncertain, she came back to us.
We began to treat her with antibiotics, but her condition worsened. Her sores expanded and she was lethargic, feverish, and didn’t want to eat. Worst of all, her poor paws swelled up painfully and began to ooze puss. We weren’t sure if she was going to make it.

After more research and additional veterinary input, we were able to find the issue: Clementine has a somewhat rare condition, an autoimmune skin disease called Pemphigus foliaceus. After administering two immunosuppressant medications, she finally began to feel better. However, she does have flair-ups from certain vaccines.

Now, you couldn’t tell from looking at her that her paws were once so swollen she didn’t walk. Her beautiful fur has grown back, and her eyes are bright and playful again. Clementine has spent three months in the attentive foster care of our own medical manager, Jesse. Once she began to feel better, Clementine became a happy, fun, confident kitten who loves to play, sunbathe, and meet new people. She loves grooming, snuggling, and playing with Jesse’s 60-pound dog, and so we think she would appreciate a home with a cat or dog friend to keep her company. If you’d like to see video footage of Clementine’s kitten antics, check out the reel we have posted about her on Facebook or Instagram.

If you’ve read this far, Clementine is available for adoption!
Typically our adoptions are first-come, first served, but due to Clementine’s condition, she is available for adoption from foster by application so that we can select the best fit. We want to ensure her future family is ready to embrace managing her condition so she can live a happy, healthy, normal life!
