Important: help us get back on the road

Thursday, October 16, 2025
This week, our transport van and two employees were involved in an accident.
They were returning from South Florida, where they had picked up 15 cats and dogs, when a tire blew on the van near the Skyway Bridge.
Thanks to the expert maneuvering of our assistant shelter director, Krista, the van stayed upright and no other vehicles were hit. Krista and Destiny, our lead vet tech, were taken to the ER and thankfully released with minor injuries. Every animal is safe and uninjured, except one puppy who sustained a broken leg and is already undergoing treatment. Each pet received a thorough vet exam. We’re so grateful to the first responders on scene for their swift arrival and kindness.
Our transport van is an essential tool to our mission, carrying pets from at-risk shelters across the state to safety at Friends of Strays. Without it, our ability to save lives is severely impacted. We’re working with insurance now, but it’s clear we’ll need to purchase a new transport vehicle as soon as possible.
Please help us recover from this accident and get back on the road to saving lives.
Your gift today will go directly toward replacing our van. If you’re unable to donate, please share with your networks.
