Friends of Strays receives $200,000 grant through Pinellas Community Foundation

Friday, February 16, 2024

Friends of Strays is grateful to announce that we are the recipient of a $200,000 grant for operations through Pinellas Community Foundation, funded by Rebecca Weiss Sjouwerman and Stu Sjouwerman.

“I am very impressed with Friends of Strays. They completed their new building in record time,” Rebecca said. “The animals are lovingly cared for. The staff is happy and works in harmony with the Board. The CEO has been on her post for many years and leads the organization beautifully.”

Rebecca and Stu are active philanthropists in the Pinellas County community, supporting local animal welfare, environmental protection efforts, and more.

Friends of Strays has launched an expansion project that, when complete, will include separate cat and dog adoption buildings as well as a medical and intake facility. Phase 1 of the project, renovation of what will be the Cat Box adoption center, is nearly completed.

“With this donation, Friends of Strays will be on track to make a positive difference in the lives of animals in Pinellas County and throughout the state of Florida,” said Dara Eckart, Friends of Strays CEO. “We are so grateful for the support of Rebecca and Stu.”
