Search For A Companion For Life
***As of Wednesday, December 2nd, Friends of Strays will no longer be conducting adoptions by appointment.***
Cut down on your time inside our adoption center and fill out an online application here!
Masks are required in while in our adoption center, and we will be limiting the number of people inside our facility at any given time.
If you are looking to adopt a dog and already have a dog at home, please bring them with you to your appointment.
At Friends of Strays we encourage you to look at all of our companion animals available for adoption. Adopters are invited to our shelter to work with one of our Adoption Counselors to find the best match. While you may have your mind set on one of the animals in our database, we encourage all adopters to keep an open mind when they visit the shelter. Many people find that an animal picks them!
All our adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, and microchipped. Our adoption fees vary depending on species and age. As a non-profit organization, all adoption fees go right back to the animals! Feel free to contact our Adoption Center at (727) 522-6566 ext 102 with any questions.
As of January 1, 2020 Friends of Strays is no longer identifying our dogs by breed. Going forward, all of our dogs will be labeled as a “mixed breed” unless we have a valid reason to label them otherwise. Read our full statement on breed labeling here.
Please note that for a variety of reasons, Friends of Strays does not allow the adoption of dogs who are related (e.g. littermates or mom and pup) for behavioral reasons. When adopted as littermates or as mom and pup, relatives tend to bond to each others, which causes distress later on by not bonding to other members of a household or showing difficulty socializing with humans. In addition, as siblings or offspring reach dexual maturity, conflict ofter arises over competition for space, toys, resources, or general pack status. For additional information, please refer to Adopting Littermates? Don’t do it!
If you are coming to see a specific dog, please call ahead and leave a message for Adoptions so we can hold them back from Doggy Day Out: 727-522-6566 ext 102.
