Donor Relations Manager

The Donor Relations Manager is responsible for leading the annual giving campaign, co-planning donor related events and ensuring that all donors are properly stewarded and cultivated. The primary focus of this position is to ensure the annual giving development plan is implemented in a timely fashion, to increase donor engagement and retention, upgrade donor giving and achieve annual giving campaign goals.
The position will seek out and build relationships with local businesses, adopters, donors, volunteers, and other supporters to increase engagement and donations in support of the shelter.
Primary responsibilities of this position are outlined below:
- Partners with Engagement Manager and Communications/Marketing Manager to build a strategic fundraising and communication plan to reach annual giving campaign fundraising goals.
- Writes donor and prospect related newsletter articles, mail and email appeals.
- Manages contact lists and the direct mail process with mail house, design and list management companies.
- Partners with Engagement Manager to plan and execute donor and volunteer-related events.
- Tracks pledges and monthly gifts to ensure continuity.
- Tracks portfolios of individual and corporate prospects/donors through moves management and prepares donor reports.
- Researches and writes grant proposals and completes grant reports.
- Ensures donor platform and database donor records are maintained and updated regularly.
- Responsible for all donor acknowledgement and assignment of cultivation efforts to FOS team members.
- Assists with individual donor stewardship including developing and managing communication efforts and activities via in-person, phone, email.
- Works with engagement and communications managers to find creative ways to engage with the public, our volunteers and supporters.
- Develops and maintains strong relationships within the local community.
- Compiles and prepares data reports and individual stories to convey the impact of fundraising.
Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
- Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications or related field.
- Demonstrated leadership experience.
- Three to five years’ experience in nonprofit development/fundraising, sales, community outreach, special events or related field.
- Minimum of three years’ supervisory experience.
- Proven project management experience.
- Animal welfare experience preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Proven and effective verbal, written, listening and interpersonal communication skills; Ability to work effectively with time sensitive deadlines; Ability to prioritize projects and request assistance when needed; High degree of comfort working with technology, from database management to Microsoft Office applications; Strong organizational and project management skills; Ability to perform repetitive tasks; Comfortable with public speaking; Willingness to approach and engage with potential supporters; Teamwork and consensus building skills; Ability to use sound judgment when dealing with donors, volunteers, animal-related concerns and confidential information; Interest and knowledge of animal welfare related issues.
